Wish You Were Here

What would you say to me if you were here?

Would you whisper I love you into my ear?

Would you tell me you’re proud of all that I’ve done

And wish me good luck with what’s to come?

Would you simply smile and hold me near

And remember my childhood hopes and fears?

Or maybe you’d just say, “My how you’ve grown.”

The most obvious statement I’ve ever known.

The truth is I know just what you’d say.

You’d say “I’m sorry for leaving that day.

But I knew you’d be fine, for I raised you right.

And I know you’ve missed me every day and night”

I have missed you, mom with all of my heart.

I never imagined we’d have to part.
